Moe van ingewikkelde Crypto-adressen? Dit project is bedoeld om het te repareren
Tegen het einde van dit jaar kunnen gebruikers van crypto-portefeuilles zoals KeepKey , Mycelium , MyCrypto of anderen een nieuwe functie gebruiken waarmee ze zichzelf een gebruikersnaam en domein kunnen toewijzen in plaats van lange, verwarrende adressen.
Deze functie, aangeboden door het consortium van blockchain-portefeuilles, uitwisselingen en betalingsproviders genaamd Foundation for Interwallet Operability (FIO), is een poging om cryptocurrency en blockchain-acceptatie te ondersteunen door het risico, de complexiteit en het ongemak van verzenden en ontvangen van cryptoassets.
Op dit moment is een duidelijk probleem bij de adoptie van cryptocurrencies het feit dat porteadressen bestaan uit strings van letters en cijfers die zeer verwarrend kunnen zijn en gemakkelijk kunnen worden aangezien. Het feit dat de blockchain geen restituties toestaat om dubbele uitgaven te voorkomen, betekent ook dat een kleine fout betekent verloren geld, mogelijk onherstelbaar, mocht de ontvanger besluiten om ze simpelweg niet terug te sturen. Met het FIO-protocol dat namen en domeinen toewijst aan portefeuille-adressen, moet het risico aanzienlijk worden verminderd, omdat elke gebruiker zijn naam zo eenvoudig of gecompliceerd kan kiezen als hij maar wil.
Vanaf het moment van schrijven telt de Foundation zeven leden: cryptocurrency exchanges ShapeShift en Coinomi en cryptocurrency wallets KeepKey, BRD , Edge , MyCrypto en Mycelium. De BRD-portemonnee heeft het protocol al geïntegreerd om het gebruik ervan aan te tonen, met nog meer portemonnees die binnenkort zullen komen.

Dapix werd geïncubeerd terwijl Gold Managing Director was van Access Venture Partners , een durfkapitaalfonds in een vroeg stadium, waar hij meer dan 11 jaar werkzaam was. Voordat hij bij Access Venture Partners kwam, was Gold een investeerder in aandelen en bestuurslid bij een aantal technologiebedrijven met meerdere exits.
Cryptonews.com sprak met Gold over het idee achter FIO, hun resultaten tot nu toe en wat de toekomst inhoudt.
Hoe is FIO anders?
“FIO coming to the market is quite unlike a lot of crypto projects in that it is not being built in a vacuum. It’s being built with other industry players from the beginning,” zegt Gold. “At the end of the day, FIO Protocol is a beta B2C [business to consumer] model. It’s the wallets and exchanges that leverage the software kits and the APIs [application programming interfaces] to integrate the Protocol into their own products. The consumers end up using it through the wallet or exchange that has decided to do so. That’s why we have decided to build it from the ground up with deep involvement from the industry.”

“The FIO Protocol will even be able to do things like refunds, which are really important in econ and commerce, but they’re very challenging with today’s setup,” legt Gold uit.
“Another ability is doing recurring payments. How do I sign up for a subscription from a dapp [decentralized application]? Many of them will want to have a subscription model. Do we send people a monthly reminder to pay? That’s very clunky. With the FIO Protocol, you’ll be able to push a recurring request for payment, securely, from the dapp wallet directly into the wallet of the customer.”
Een ander ding waar FIO aan zal werken is multi-handtekening routing, Gold vertelt ons: “The FIO Protocol is built to solve [the multisig routing] problem securely, using the core of FIO data, and expanding on that concept. Users will be able to go to a website that accepts crypto payments, and the order will just appear in their wallet. Eventually, they won’t have to enter anything beyond the info, picking what they want to order, and get a request for payment with metadata information, where they will be able to confirm it.”
Wanneer komt het?
FIO is mogelijk binnenkort beschikbaar voor klanten, zegt Gold. “We anticipate launching the mainnet in beta this year. Initially it will go into a closed beta, then into an open beta. We’ll continue to add wallets and exchanges, you’ll continue to see an ongoing stream of demo videos coming out. There will be more and more wallets, exchanges and even crypto payment processors joining the Foundation this year. We will eventually release the full whitepaper to the community beyond the closed group that can see it today.”
Het project heeft ook tot doel een FIO-token uit te geven, dat zal worden gebruikt om FIO-adressen te registreren, voor hoge transactievolumes te betalen (lagere volumes zullen gratis zijn), om te betalen voor verbeterde metadata, en om de houder van stemrechten voor de FIO blockchain, die een gedelegeerd consensus-of-stake-mechanisme gebruikt.
Hoewel het protocol in bèta is, kan de community deelnemen aan het testen ervan. Wat betreft wie een bètatester kan worden: “That’s not completely decided at this point,” zegt Gold, die eraan toevoegt dat de portefeuilles en uitwisselingen die deel uitmaken van de Foundation degenen zijn die beslissen wie van hun gebruikers kunnen deelnemen. Het tijdsbestek voor de bèta is naar verwachting het einde van Q3 of Q4.
Veiligheid en privacy
“From the beginning, we at FIO have said that the Protocol cannot reduce either the user’s security or their privacy – this was very important to us, and so it does neither. In fact, it increases security, in a way,” vertelt Gold. Een grote hulp bij dit probleem waren hun partners, legt hij uit, omdat ze van invloed waren op de manier waarop het protocol werd gebouwd. Sommige van de blootgelegde problemen maakten het mogelijk om oplossingen te implementeren "om ervoor te zorgen dat we ons doel bereiken om mensen in staat te stellen ten minste hetzelfde niveau van privacy te behouden als tegenwoordig", voegt hij toe.
Niets is echter eenvoudig. “Currently, the biggest obstacle is the chicken and egg problem. You have to have a lot of wallets and exchanges integrating the Protocol for it to be valuable, but also to have a Protocol that people can actually use. We’ve cracked that problem by forming the Foundation for Interwallet Operability from the beginning with key industry leaders.”
En voor diegenen die er de voorkeur aan geven de huidige manier van verzenden van geld te gebruiken – met alle onzinnige cijfers en letters – zullen ze zich ook kunnen afmelden voor FIO. “In the same way that you could theoretically use an IP address to go to a website – nobody does that, but every web browser supports that – you’ll be able to use the old fashioned way to send funds,” sluit Gold af.
